4.7 million Americans aged fifty or over have ordered prescription medicine over 
the internet, according to a new study from Primary Research Group 
"DRUG STORE SHOPPING HABITS OF AMERICANS AGED 50 AND OVER."  
This report  gives extensive data on how often older Americans go
to the drug store, which pharmacies they visit, how much they spend and what products they buy.  The study, based on a representative panel of 430+ Americans 
aged 50 and over, also gives detailed data on drug purchases from Canada and through internet and direct mail channels. The report gives overall customer
loyalty and drug store satisfaction ratings and offers data on the store name recognition and
use data for the following drug chains:  Revco, Eckerds, CVS, Rite Aid, Genovese, Thrifty Payless, Duane Reed, Walgreens, Long’s, Walmart,  Savon and others.  
The 150+ page report has more than 600 tables of data based on more than 60 questions about the drug store and prescription drug purchasing habits of  mature 
Americans. The complete report is available from Primary Research Group for $1795.00.  The report may also be purchased "by the slice" for $100.00 per segment.
Each segment has form 12-13 tables relating to a particular survey question or data point. 


•	The mean number of monthly visits to the pharmacy for the survey participants was 3.26
•	Survey participants in 71-75 and 76-85 age groups visited the pharmacy more frequently than other survey participants
•	The less affluent tended to make more visits to the pharmacy than the more affluent, and the religious made more visits than the non-religious.
•	Individuals of southern and  western European ethnic backgrounds -- Irish, Italian, French, Greek -- tended to visit the pharmacy more than those
        from other ethnic groups.
•	Suburbanites made more pharmacy visits than those living in other locales.
•	Women made more pharmacy visits than men
•	Monthly spending was highest among those with household incomes between $25,000 and $45,000
•	Individuals describing themselves as "mainstream democrats" by far outspent those with other political affiliations, as did those who live in small towns.
•	A shade more than 45% of those sampled have heard of the CVSI Pharmacy
•	A bit more than 28% of those sampled have heard of Revco, with name recognition rates falling off sharply for those over 70 years of age
•	Nearly 46% of those sample had heard of the Eckerds pharmacy chain.


•	The participants in the survey obtained a mean of about 64% of their prescription drugs through retail pharmacies. However, more 
        than half obtained all of their prescription drugs through retail pharmacies.

•	Participants in the 50-54 year old age group obtained a mean of 55.7% of their prescription drugs through retail pharmacies.

•	12.27% of those sampled regularly purchase food at their pharmacies.
•	Individuals in the lower and middle income groups were far more likely than those in the higher income groups to purchase food at pharmacies 
•	18.9 million Americans aged 50 or over regularly purchase makeup or beauty aids at their pharmacy


•	Nearly 46% of those in the sample regularly purchase first aid supplies at their pharmacy.
•	Individuals of southern/western European background and Russian/East European background had a greater propensity than others to buy first aid supplies at their pharmacy, as did those at the political extremes. 
•	Nearly 38 million Americans aged 50 or over say that they regularly purchase first aid supplies at their pharmacy

•	About 44% of those sampled say that they regularly purchase toothpaste and other tooth care items at their pharmacies.
•	More than 50% of those in the 71-85 year old age group purchase toothpaste and other tooth care products at their pharmacy


•	5.79% of those sampled have ordered prescription medicine over the internet
•	Interestingly, those in the younger age groups were not really more disposed than those in the older age groups to order prescription medicines over the internet
•	Individuals of Anglo/British origins and those who consider themselves independents or centrists politically were most likely to order prescription medicines over the internet
•	An estimated 4.7 million Americans aged 50 or over have ordered prescription medicines over the internet.
