This survey presents data from senior administrators at 68 research universities predominantly in the USA, Canada, the UK and Australia about their recent experience with and outlook for student enrollment at their institutions.  Survey participants report on their recent enrollment and retention experience breaking down their results for various student populations and commenting on the outlook for the future.  They give detailed data and commentary on their experience with international students and their expectations for the post-pandemic future.  In addition, they discuss measures that they have taken to enhance enrollment prospects.  Data in the report is broken out by many variables including for public and private colleges, by country or region, international university ranking and other characteristics.

Just of few of this 40-page report’s many findings are that:

  • 48.53% of survey participants said that their institutions had experienced a decline in enrollment in the past year.
  • Only 18.75% of universities ranked in the top 30 worldwide had experienced a drop in retention rates in the past year.
  • 84% of private universities sampled had experienced a drop in international student enrollment.
