Survey of US Higher Education Faculty 2023, Use of Proxies to Retrieve Items at the Academic Library (ISBN No:979-8-88517-160-1 )

This study looks closely at the use of proxies by higher education faculty to retrieve items from or represent them at academic libraries.  Such programs have become more popular in recent years as more faculty work remotely and visit the library less.  Some libraires have found them useful in maintaining faculty links to the library, particularly to print and audio-visual items.  The report gives detailed data on the percentage and type of faculty who have used such proxy programs, and the extent of their use. Just a few of the findings from this 43-page report are that:

• Older faculty tended to be more aware of this policy than younger ones; 68.01% of faculty over age 60 felt such a policy existed vs. only 46.67% of faculty under age 30.
• Use was greater by faculty who considered themselves political conservatives than those on the left wing of the political spectrum.

Data in the report is based on a survey of 954 higher education faculty from nearly 500 institutions; data is broken out by a broad range of personal and institutional variables including age, gender, work title, academic field, personal income level, type of higher education institution, and other useful variables.
