This study looks at who, how and how much US higher education faculty use Google Scholar. The report also includes detailed data on which faculty value Google Scholar, and just how much do they value it. Survey participants also give advice on how they use Google Scholar, as well as competitive sites.

Male survey respondents made nearly twice as many posts on Google Scholar than female respondents

Posting was highest among faculty in psychology/social work and lowest in history and journalism.

46% of assistant professors considered Google Scholar either extremely or very valuable.
This study is based on data from an April through June 2023 survey of 731 higher education faculty randomly chosen from nearly 500 colleges and universities in the USA. Data is broken out by personal variables such as work title, gender, personal income level, academic discipline, age and other variables, as well as institutional indicators such as college or university type or Carnegie class, enrollment size, public or private status and others.
